    What our Academy graduates say

Hear from Emily and Sylvester - our Academy graduates, who are now working as Energy Advisors.

The Energy Advisor Academy put me in the position to do what I do. Everything I do goes back what I learned in that programme – I’ve been building on that knowledge but the foundation was the Academy and it came at a perfect time.

I wasn’t sure how I would transition from the theoretical to the practical, and wasn’t sure I’d be good enough, but I received fantastic support and encouragement from the Greenworkx team. I’m very grateful for this.

    Sylvester
    Energy advisor

Being an Energy Advisor is a really rewarding job, I speak to people from all sorts of places, all sorts of backgrounds and ages, and I get to help them - which is really, really great. I love being able to help people with no catch, just helping people to have better lives - it’s amazing!

Greenworkx were fantastic, hugely supportive. From helping through the course to even helping me find a job! I really cannot thank them enough.

    Frequently asked questions

What do energy advisor actually do?

Advisors play a key role in addressing fuel poverty and the energy crisis, making a significant impact to sustainability efforts across the country. They do this by:

    • Conducting home visits and phone consultations to ask residents a series of questions to gain an understanding of their energy consumption patterns.
    • Advising residents on how to reducing their utility bills, switching suppliers, accessing discounts, changing behaviours, fitting small practical energy-saving measures like LED light bulbs and draft proofing, among others.
    • Raise awareness about other available support and helping householders access funded home energy improvements, e.g. loft insulation or heating upgrades.
What is not included in responsibilities of an energy advisor?

It can be confusing to make sense of the differences between different roles in the energy and retrofit space when you’re new to it! So let’s clear up some of this potential confusion upfront. Energy advisors don’t:

    • Inspect or assess the energy efficiency of buildings and produce EPC reports. This is the job of a Domestic Energy Assessor.
    • Offer advice relating to major repairs, or to electrical or plumbing work.
    • Promote or sell any particular products or services.
Is it possible to go through the training faster?

You will not be inspecting or assessing the energy efficiency of buildings and producing EPC reports. This is the work of a Domestic Energy Assessor, and is not included in the responsibilities of an Energy Advisor.

You will not offer advice relating to major repairs, or to electrical or plumbing work. As an Energy Advisor, the advice you give will mostly revolve around behavioural patterns, raising awareness about best energy efficiency practices, switching energy providers, ensuring the residents are utilising other available support, and so on.

You will however be able to refer them to other organisations, or available funding, that might provide repair or installation services related to energy efficiency and renewable energy.

You will not be promoting or selling any particular products or services.

When does the 3-day webinar take place?

The Greenworkx Careers Team will aim to match everyone who completes the course with Energy Advisor roles alongside providing CV and interview tips. We cannot guarantee you'll be hired in this process.
