Our first steps to 10 million people in green jobs in 10 years

Updated in October 2026 to reflect how our work has grown since we launched.
In part 1 of this series, we explained the green skills emergency and why we started Greenworkx. In this post, we share how our work towards the mission has grown.
Where we started
Our first step was helping people into green careers. Early on, Innovate UK backed us as winners of its first Fast Start competition for net-zero startups. We have since trained more than 500 people in accredited energy efficiency qualifications, and helped dozens of them into green roles.
What employers told us
That work put us in daily conversation with employers, and we kept hearing the same thing: “They’re trained, but they’re not ready.”
New starters held the right qualifications, yet many lacked the practical experience to contribute on live, tightly regulated projects. Even experienced teams were struggling to keep up as standards tightened.
Getting teams ready, and keeping them ready
So we built Greenworkx into an all-in-one skills platform for organisations powering the energy transition. It helps them:
- identify the gaps, with a skills diagnostic that shows what each person knows today and what their role needs;
- build practical capability, through learning pathways that combine expert-approved courses with practical tools that give live feedback; and
- evidence the gains, with workforce dashboards that show knowledge gains, completion and readiness by role.
Why this serves the mission
A green job is only as secure as the readiness of the person doing it. When the organisations delivering the transition can get their people ready, and keep them ready, more people build lasting careers in green jobs, and more of the work gets done right first time.
