Today, we’re celebrating women in net-zero

Today is International Women’s Day, and this week is National Careers Week.

So, we’re proud to share and amplify the story of Juneann - a brilliant role model for women going into net-zero, who we’ve been really lucky to work with.

We find her story inspiring - and we hope that you will do!

30 years of community work - and more to come

Juneann, 59, is a retired nurse who is transitioning to a career in retrofit.

With 30 years of nursing service, she’s someone who has always been deeply committed to the community and world around her.

During the pandemic, whilst she was helping out with local vaccine efforts, she had a realisation which has now led her into retrofit and net-zero.

“Lockdown really brought home to me the effect that the buildings that people live in have on their health physically and mentally,” she says.

This realisation inspired Juneann to take action and explore a career in retrofit and social housing: making the UK’s homes more comfortable, warm and green.

Accessing new opportunities and learning new skills

Juneann took her first steps in this new career path with a Net Zero Bootcamp run by London South Bank University, and has since been continuing her path with greenworkx.

In February, she successfully completed and achieved a Level 2 Award in Understanding Domestic Retrofit.

“Retrofit is a way for me to expand my career but stay in community work,” Juneann says

With her Level 2 award under her belt, Juneann is now looking towards a Level 3 award either in Domestic Energy Assessment or Retrofit Advice.

Well-paid, future-ready and purposeful work for everyone

Juneann’s story shows how green jobs are for anyone - no matter what your age or previous experience is.

Role models like Juneann are important because we need far more people to go into green jobs. In retrofit alone, the UK needs half a million more workers by 2030 to deliver net-zero.

That’s why, at greenworkx, we’re working to supercharge the human side of net-zero and tackle the green skills emergency - increasing access to jobs that are well-paid, future-ready and deeply meaningful.

We’ve been really lucky to work with such dedicated and inspirational women as Juneann - and we’re sharing this story so that others know that they, too, can find a pathway into net-zero.

Do you know anybody who might be interested in a green job that’s well-paid, future-ready and deeply meaningful?

We have more training opportunities available - please share this post and our website with anybody that you know!
