The challenge

Earnz plc delivers energy services across residential and commercial properties, with a focus on whole-building retrofit and decarbonisation. Through a model of acquiring and scaling specialist businesses, Earnz plc is building a group of companies designed to accelerate the transition to a low-carbon future.

As Earnz continues to grow its portfolio of companies, ensuring consistent, high-quality knowledge and skills across the group is becoming a growing priority.

Why Earnz chose Greenworkx

With multiple businesses joining Earnz already, and with more growth expected, there was a need for a workforce solution that could:

  • Support rapid onboarding of new hires
  • Build practical, job-ready capability across roles
  • Provide visibility of progress and competence at both team and leadership level
  • Enable teams to resolve issues earlier, without over-reliance on senior leadership

Without a consistent approach, there was a growing risk of fragmented knowledge, uneven quality, and increased reliance on senior teams to resolve issues.

Measurable results

Greenworkx initially partnered with Earnz on a 10-week pilot across the National Retrofit Solutions (NRS) and Warm Low Living (WLL) teams.

The programme built practical knowledge and confidence across teams, while giving leadership clear visibility of competence. It delivered:

  • Strong results across engagement, learning outcomes, and operational value
  • 16% improvement in team knowledge after training
  • 80% of learners highly confident following completion
  • 8.5/10 learner satisfaction rating

Learners highlighted the accessibility and usability of the platform:

“It's easy to use, it's easy to read, it's quite straightforward.”
“A really good tool, especially for new starters.”

Managers also reported clear operational benefits:

“The dashboards are really helpful for tracking training progress.”

Practical, relevant learning
Teams valued the platform’s alignment with real-world delivery priorities, particularly its relevance to the Warm Homes Plan and technical areas such as solar PV design. The targeted learning model ensured content was directly applicable to day-to-day roles.

Enabling earlier problem-solving
A key insight from leadership was the importance of equipping teams to handle issues independently. Training helps reduce reliance on senior decision-makers by building confidence and capability earlier in the workflow.

Strong onboarding capability
The platform proved especially effective for onboarding. It is now being embedded into a structured induction model for new hires.

Beyond certification: measuring real competence
The scenario-based competency tracking was identified as a key differentiator, moving beyond passive certification towards a more meaningful understanding of job readiness.

Scaling success

Following the success of the pilot, Earnz and Greenworkx are expanding the partnership into an ongoing programme.

The next phase is focused on embedding training directly into the daily rhythms in the delivery teams:

  • Learning in the flow of work: with more bite sized modules to facilitate engagement
  • Mapping training to project timelines, such as installation phases, maximising real-world applicability
  • Introducing AI-powered simulations to enable safe practice of soft skills, such as managing resident interactions and handling on-site challenges

This will further strengthen the link between learning and delivery, ensuring teams are equipped not just with knowledge, but with the confidence to apply it effectively.
